What's in a Name

Stated more fully, as "Selling Water by the River", our friend Jane Nelson suggested it to us. It reminded her of Water by the River A Manual of Zen Training by Jiyu Kennett. Jane felt it was like in India, where along the now polluted Ganges River, there are water vendors -- selling clear water, which was once readily available to all directly from the river. We are, in practice, providing others with a way to "clean their water" - their relationship with themselves and others - so that with a little practice, guidance, insight, and commitment, they can go directly to the source - themselves - once again.

Rolf also likes to use a water metaphor in the Couples Workshops. We see the learnings and the dialogue process as being a raft. Our relationship flows like the river - some turbulence, flat places, sunny days, and sudden rapids. And when we are in the rapids it is imperative to stay in the raft. In the Workshops we refine the form of the raft, and our skills at using it to negotiate the rapids, the stillness, and the joy, of our relationship.

Heightening our attraction to is our location on the Truckee River.

We feel fortunate to live where we can see, hear and touch the River throughout the year, watching the merganser families, Canadian honkers, wayward cormorant, occasional beaver. In the spring and summertime they are joined by rafters, kayakers, brave tubers, neighbor dogs, and neighbors. With downtown Truckee on one side and the Truckee River on the other, we feel blessed and enjoy sharing it.
